We are pleased to report that our project W-BioCat has been selected by the European Innovation Council (EIC) Pathfinder Open, a European program whose objective is to provide funding for projects in any field of science or technology, based on high-risk/high-gain science-towards-technology breakthrough interdisciplinary research.

W-BioCat has been funded with 2.5 M € and is coordinated by Delft University of Technology and composed of Università degli Studi di Firenze, University of Oxford, HydRegen, Weizmann Institute of Science and EvoEnzyme.

The main objective of the project is to develop tungsten-containing enzymes (W-enzymes) for use in sustainable chemical industries. EvoEnzyme will play a crucial role, focusing on protein engineering through ancestral reconstruction, resurrection, and directed evolution of W-enzymes.
